Treatment for elderly at MIO

At MIO a 82 year old patient was operated by surgical oncologist and robotic surgeon Dr. Jalaluddin Akbar for breast cancer. As life expectancy increases, so does the chances of cancer and one in eight women are at risk for breast cancer if they survive above 70 years of age. MIO treats a significant number of patients above the age of 80 which requires tremendous skill and judgment by the treating radiation/medical/surgical oncologist. MIO plans to assess all patients treated above the age of 80 and has a separate protocol for elderly.
