Oranges, Pledges, and Life Lessons: M.I.O.'s Healthy Hero Program Lights Up Sri Vidyavilasa School, Polali
M.I.O.'s Healthy Hero program visits Sri Vidyavilasa Aided Higher Primary School, Polali engaging students through role-plays, the Health Hero Pledge, interactive games, and a fresh orange distribution to make health education real and memorable.

Taking Health Education to the Grassroots
At Mangalore Institute of Oncology (M.I.O), our vision for a "Cancer-Free India" is rooted in early education and proactive community outreach. On February 14, 2026, our team proudly took this mission to the historically and culturally rich town of Polali, hosting our signature health awareness drive at the Sri Vidyavilasa Aided Higher Primary School. By bringing our 'Healthy Hero' program to this esteemed Kannada-medium institution, we aim to blend traditional values with modern health consciousness, empowering the next generation to take charge of their well-being.
The Vision: Creating a Health-Conscious Generation
Conceptualized by our Director, Dr. D Suresh Rao, the 'Healthy Hero' initiative focuses on transforming children into active advocates for their own health. By specifically targeting government-aided and Kannada-medium schools, M.I.O. ensures that vital, life-saving health education crosses all socioeconomic barriers and reaches the very grassroots of Dakshina Kannada.
Program Highlights: Education Through Action
The classrooms at Sri Vidyavilasa School were filled with enthusiasm as students engaged in our interactive 'Be Your Own Health Hero' modules. We believe that health education should be empowering, not intimidating.
- Interactive Role-Plays: M.I.O. staff members performed relatable skits demonstrating the importance of daily physical activity, proper nutrition, and staying away from harmful habits. This visual learning helped students easily grasp complex health concepts.
- The Power of the Pledge: In a moving moment, every student stood tall to take the 'Healthy Hero Pledge.' They promised to safeguard their bodies and share their newly acquired health knowledge with their parents and neighbors.
- Creative Learning Games: Through structured, fun-filled activities, children learned that making healthy choices is a "superpower" they can use every day.
- A Nutritious Conclusion: To bridge the gap between learning and doing, the session concluded with the distribution of fresh oranges to all students. This served as a delicious, practical lesson in choosing immunity-boosting, vitamin-rich natural foods over processed snacks.
A School That Said Yes to Health
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Headmaster, teaching staff, and management of Sri Vidyavilasa Aided Higher Primary School for their warm hospitality and support. The bright smiles and enthusiastic participation of the children reaffirm our core belief: Informed children are the architects of a healthy nation.
