Creating Little Health Ambassadors: A Fun-Filled Day at Mannagudda and Gandhingar Govt Schools

At Mangalore Institute of Oncology (M.I.O.), our mission extends far beyond treating patients. We believe in building a foundation of health that starts at the very beginning with our children. In a heartwarming continuation of our 'HEALTHY HERO' program, the M.I.O. team recently visited two of Mangalore’s century-old educational institutions: the Government Schools at Mannagudda and Gandhingar. The Mission: Reaching the Forgotten Our visionary Director, Dr. D Suresh Rao, conceptualized this program with a specific motto: to reach the grassroots level. Often, children in Kannada medium government schools, segments of society that can be overlooked are the ones who need health education the most. Our goal is to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has the knowledge to lead a healthy life and the confidence to build a healthy nation. Learning Through Joy, Not Lectures This was not a typical classroom session! The atmosphere at Mannagudda and Gandhingar was filled with laughter, energy, and enthusiasm. Instead of dry presentations, our team engaged the students with: Interactive Role-Plays: Staff of M.I.O acted out skits demonstrating healthy lifestyle choices and food habits. The Health Hero Pledge: With hands raised high, hundreds of students took a solemn oath to prioritize their well-being and become the "Health Captains" of their homes (Nimma maneya aarogya nayakaragiri). Dance and Movement: We believe health is active! The sessions included fun exercise drills and dancing, proving that staying fit is enjoyable. Certification: At the end of the program, students were proudly awarded "Healthy Hero Certificates," a badge of honor they can take home to their parents.

A Legacy of Care

These schools have been around for over a hundred years, educating generations of Mangaloreans. It was an honor for M.I.O. to step into these historic halls and contribute to the future of these bright young minds. By catching them young and teaching them through fun, we are not just preventing illness; we are creating a generation of informed, active leaders who will champion for a healthier India.
