MIO is well equipped with advanced nuclear medicine/Positron emissiom tomograpghy (PET- CT) facilities. During this diagnostic procedure, radio active materials(Radiotraces) are injected into the blood stream, inhaled or swallowed which gets circulated within the body and the gamma rays emitted are captured by special camera & computer to create images of patients “hot spots”.
When a person is suspected to have cancer the doctor will ask for certain tests to be performed with blood or/and biopsy from a suspected area. he results obtained after analyzing these samples will help the diagnosis and to plan further advanced tests and/or treatment.
