The Chairman of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Govt. of India Shri SA Bharadwaj accompanied by Shri V Balasubramanyan Director, Nuclear Safety Analysis and Research Group and Safety Research Institute, AERB and Shri J Koley, Head, Directorate of Radiation Protection and Environment, AERB visited the Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO). Professor HM Somashekarappa Coordinator, Medical Physics division of Mangalore University also accompanied them. Dr Suresh Rao, Dr MS Baliga and Mr Jayapalan took them around and explained the infrastructure established for cancer diagnosis and therapy and the patient care being provided at MIO. They were highly appreciative of the high standards MIO has been maintaining in radiation safety and the quality of treatment providing for the cancer patients. Dr Suresh Rao the Director expressed that MIO never compromises on quality and that this has helped in providing state of the art treatment available in internationally reputed cancer centers to the population of this region. Further, he also mentioned to the visiting dignitaries that MIO has entered into the MoU with Mangalore University to extend the expertise and infrastructure facilities required to train the students of newly proposed MSc in Medical Physics course.
