Mangalore Institute of Oncology celebrates 5th Anniversary

Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO), A Cancer Specialty Hospital of greater Mangalore completed 5 years of service to the state.

To commemorate this, a program was organized at the MIO lawns on Saturday the 20th of May 2017 at 6.0 PM.   Sri Ivan D’souza the Chief whip of Legislative council of Karnataka was the chief guest; Sri Praveenchandra Alva the corporator of B’ward Kankanady the guest of Honor and Dr AV Shetty the senior cardiologist was the guest of honor. On this occasion, MIO also welcomed Sri Ananthakrishna Former Chairman of Karnataka Bank as the honorary president of the hospital.






The program was compeered by Shri Manohar Prasad and was initiated with a formal prayer to Dhanavantari the lord of health and medicine. Dr Sanath Kumar Hegde delivered the welcome address inviting the dignitaries, the patrons, guest and the audience. Dr Suresh Rao gave a talk on the journey of MIO in the past five years addressing aspects on why there was a need for super speciality Cancer hospital in Mangalore, the ethics followed, the growth of the institution, the plans for the future and on the love and support the fraternity and public of the state have provided.

Sri Ananthakrishna the honorary president appreciated the zeal of the doctors and on how with his experience in the banking sector will be assisting the MIO management in the proposed expansion of the hospital.







In his address the chief guest Shri Ivan D’souza said that he was aware that the treatment offered at MIO was of international standard and has resulted in nearly 70% cancer survivors. He also said that he was immensely touched that the there was no inequity and that the centre supports the treatment of the marginalized and poor people with wholehearted dedication.

In his key note address, Dr AV Shetty the senior cardiologist of Mangalore took the audience to a journey of what cancer term meant for people and physicians in the past and on how MIO has changed the concept by providing the state of the art treatment with empathy and care.

Dr Jalauddin Akbar delivered the vote of Thanks. Bhargavi troup of Udupi provided the cultural events.
